HALLOWEEN DAY CELEBRATIONS

On the occasion of Halloween day the students of Primary and Pre- Primary gave a “SUCCESSFULLY SCARY “performance. Students were dresses up as various scary characters. The wizards and witches were roaming around in the corridors and made the atmosphere spine chilling. The day was filled with fun and frolic and the celebration ended with a dance party.

CAREER COUNSELLING

On 31st October 2012, a workshop on Career Counseling was organized in the school for the students of classes XI and XII. Col Rajeev Alhuwalia enriched the students with various career options available and facilitated them to realize their dreams

QUIZ COMPETITION

Our students Vanshika Sharma of class –I and Kush Gupta of class-II participated in a Quiz competition held in De Indian Public School and won second position for the same.

CYBER OLYMPIAD

Goenkans participated in the Cyber Olympiad. Our children displayed exemplary performance in the competition. Sana Bhat of class IV is qualified the second round.

ITIHAS WALK

On 29th October 2012, the students of classes I and II got an opportunity to visit Gandhi Smriti to learn about the Father of our Nation Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. They were flabbergasted to hear the voice of the noble Gandhi and work on a charkha, a simple yet interesting device. The students saw the museum at Gandhi Smriti. They even the saw the room in which Gandhi lived during his last days. Filled with proud over our rich history and culture, the students returned back to school. It was truly a very learning yet fun filled visit.

TRIP TO NAINITAL

Students had a lifetime experience in an excursion to Nanital from 19th to 23rd October 20012. The enjoyed water games, face painting, rock climbing, dancing on foot- tapping music of the DJ, bonfire etc. Children learnt skills of being social, independent, observant, decision making etc.

CAMPING FUN

Learning with fun is the mantra that we follow. We believe the children learn best when they are enjoying a particular activity. We had organized a Day Camp for the students on 20th October 2012 in the school premises. Children had loads of fun through a range of activities like adventurous sports, games, magic show, zorbing etc. They also danced to the beautiful foot tapping numbers.

ALL INDIA CAMEL ART COMPETITION

An art competition was organized for by Camlin for students of classes I to VIII. All students enthusiastically participated in the art competition and let their creativity soar higher on an assortment of themes like “Story Picturisation” etc.

DRAWING COMPETITION

G.D Goenka Public School Sector -9, Rohini participated in an Inter-School Drawing Competition which was organized by G.D Goenka Public School Sector-22. Our school students made us proud by winning the Third Position. The winners are:-
• Pranesh Ranjan (Class IV) in Oil Pastel Competition
• Muskan Jain (Class VIII) in Drawing and Sketching Competition

INTER ZONAL SKATING COMPETITION 2012

G.D Goenka Public School participated in an inter zonal skating competition which was organized at The Presidency School”. Our school bagged all the first three positions and made our school proud by winning 11 medals. Following are the positions of our school students:-

INDO NEPAL UK TRI NATION KARATE CHAMPIONSHIP 2012

G.D Goenka Public School sec-9, Rohini participated in the Indo-Nepal-U.K Tri Nation Karate Championship in Amritsar. Our school was awarded an “Award of Honor”. Twelve teams participated in this championship from three Nations out of which only three teams reached the finals. Our students got the following positions in the championship:-

• Vishal Nagar bagged I position in the category of Sub Junior Sports & Hemant Sharma in Mini Sub Junior Sports

• Tushar Nanda bagged II position in the category of Juniors and Jai in Sub Juniors.

MINI BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT 2012 - THE WINNING STREAK

G.D Goenka Public School sec-9, Rohini organized a Mini Basketball Tournament in association with Junior Sports India on 4th October 2012 at the school court. The competition was declared open by Principal Ms. Lindsy Dayalkumar. It was indeed an enthralling show which created vibrations with the aim of motivating and creating sportsman spirit. Twelve teams participated from different schools. The heraldic welcome was given by the school. It was one of its kinds. All the teams showed full control of the reigns.
First position was bagged by G.D Goenka Public School Sec-9 Rohini, Second position was awarded to Lancer’s Convent and Third position was awarded to Vikas Bharti Public School. Privileged Trophy was awarded to the winning team. Certificates were given to all the participants.
GANESH CHATURTHI
Ganesha Chaturthi, also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi is the Hindu festival. It is the birthday of Lord Ganesha who is widely worshipped as the god of wisdom, prosperity and good fortune. During the celebration in the school, Ganpati Bappa Moriya was echoing in the whole campus. The children of Pre School to class II had come together to celebrate this festive occasion. Children brought garlands and ladoos for the puja ceremony. Ganesha’s idol was decorated with flowers both by teachers and students. At the end children and teachers enjoyed the arti with the Prasad.

EXCURSION TO TIKKLING CAMP

An adventure camp was organized for the teaching staff to Tikkling camp. It is surrounded by extensive wilderness of rocky Aravalis from three sides. The day started with some warm activities followed by activities like wall climbing, valley crossing, zorbing, treks and hikes , army obstacles, flying fox etc.Staff enjoyed a lot and are grateful to the Management for organizing such an event.

TEACHER'S DAY

Teacher's Day is a special occasion for teachers as it is for students. The much awaited day began with the cake cutting ceremony by the Principal along with the teachers and a felicitation ceremony by class XII students. The students put up a grand show for all the teachers of the school to honor them for all the sincere efforts to impart knowledge to the students. Students and teachers spent the day full of love, fun and frolic. The role reversal of students becoming the organizers and teachers becoming the participants took place and a variety of interesting games were played so that the teachers could have a fun filled day and could laugh and play along with their very own students. The “ramp walk”, “sarree draping”, “eating up in 1 minute”, innovative use of dupatta were some such games which enthralled the teachers and students, leaving the entire audience asking for more. There was a DJ party. The students and teachers enjoyed dancing to their favorite songs.

EDUCATION WITH PURPOSE

The students of Nursery and Kindergarten were excited on Saturday, 1st September morning for their field trip to Rail Museum in New Delhi which is one of the largest museum of its kind in India and was opened on 1st February 1977. The children were enthusiastic and were excited to see the trains. The best part of the day was when the children took the round of rail museum in the train driven by steam engine. The teachers accompanying the students told them about the important aspects of rail museum like fairy queen (oldest locomotive in the world) etc. The comfortable day journey by deluxe coach and day snacks kept the young wings smiling and fresh throughout the day.

CAREER COUNSELING WORKSHOP

A career counseling Workshop was conducted in school arena, by the coordinators of Teach Well Institute on 31st August for the students of classes 11th and 12th. The students learnt about the techniques of time management, career opportunities, knowledge about various courses etc. The queries of the students regarding the career options in their field of study were clarified.

SKILL ENHANCEMENT WORKSHOP

The skill enhancement workshop for teachers was conducted by Mr.Yug from UK on 29th August 2012. Mr. Yug is an experienced counselor who brings in optimism, integrity and creativity. He discussed the various methods by which teachers should make their way of teaching interesting, so that children take interest in the overall development of their personality. He also advised that children should be motivated by pointing out their specific positive aspects rather than in a general way.

INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION

“I am a patriot, not because I love my country but my country too loves me”
The Independence Day was celebrated on 14th August 2012.The students had prepared the badges on their own and pinned it on all students and teachers. The school was decorated with tricolor.Our Principal, unfurled and hoisted the National flag followed by singing of the National Anthem. Mrs. Sushma Srivastava, also spoke on this auspicious occasion and discussed about what is the real meaning of Independence and freedom. Our tiny tots of Preprimary gave a wonderful performance on the song “Nana Munna Rahi Hum” and did a role play, where they depicted the role of various freedom fighters and political leaders. The students also participated in an inter-house dance competition, adding colors to the event. Radhakrishnan House stood first and Vivekananda House got the second position. The school Rock Trand Band was inaugurated on this auspicious day. They gave a spellbound performance. Our Principal, Ms Lindsy Dayalkumar in her address, asked the students to work towards the welfare of the society and also motivated them to follow the path of righteousness. Followed by this, a PowerPoint presentation was given in the classes where in the teachers talked about the importance of the day, our duties towards the country and about the heroes of the freedom struggle.

LIFEBUOY HAND HYGIENE EDUCATION PROGRAMME

A workshop was conducted by Hindustan Unilever Limited on Life buoy Hand Hygiene Education Programme in our School premises on 13th August 2012 for classes nursery to X. The representative from Lifebuoy gave live demonstration through UV light and also showed some videos related to handwash. The students also took pledge that they will always keep their hands germs free by washing their hands. Students were also given pamphlets related to health and hygiene. The workshop was interesting and quite informative and children enjoyed a lot. The teacher coordinators were Mrs. Aarti Chhabra and Mrs. Sushma Srivastava.

JANAMASHTAMI CELEBRATION

The birth of lord Krishna was celebrated as Janmashtmi on 9th August 2012. A special assembly was organized for the same. The students from different classes performed gracefully and dedicated their performances to Lord Krishna and Goddess Radha. Little Krishnas and Radhas from nursery embraced the stage with their dance performance. An Inter-House Dance Competition was held where different houses rocked the stage. Vivekanand House was announced as the winner and Tagore House got the second position. This auspicious celebration ended with the breaking of yogurt pot by the pyramid of the senior students. The students also celebrated in their classes by worshiping Lord Krishna. The students were also shown a power point presentation on Janmashtmi in the classes. In the end, students were given sweets and chocolates to share the happiness of the birth of Life Maker and Life Saver.

LETTER WRITING FOR FRIENDSHIP DAY

On 8th August 2012, the students of class I wrote a message for their friend on a postcard which they posted in the letter box kept outside the post office. The message was wishing the friend A HAPPY FRIENDSHIP DAY. In this manner, the kids learnt how to write a small letter and how a post office works.

WORKSHOP ORGANISED BY CBSE HELD AT G.D. GOENKA, VASANT KUNJ

A workshop was organized by CBSE at G.D. Goenka Public School, Vasant Kunj on 4th August 2012, where they shared information regarding the changed in the CCE system. They also discussed about the new pattern of forming the question paper and the marking scheme. Also, the teachers from various branches of G.D. Goenka Public School performed activities and shared how these activities can be incorporated in classroom teaching. It was enriching and a memorable experience.

RAKSHABANDHAN CELEBRATION

Rakshabandhan was celebrated by the students on August 1,2012. The students prepared beautiful rakhis using cotton, ribbon and decorative material. They also coloured and decorated the thalis and made small toffees and sweets to be kept in the thali. Later, they celebrated the festival of love between brothers and sisters by tying rakhis to their fellowmates. The brothers promised to protect their sisters and sisters promised to stand by their brothers in times of need. In this way, they were explained the meaning of Rakshabandhan.

INTER HOUSE SOLO SINGING COMPETITION

Inter House Solo Singing Competition was held on 20th July 2012 for students of class VII and VIII. Students showed their best knowledge of swar and Taal and scattered the pearls of sur through their lovely songs. Aastha of class VIII ( Radhakrishnan House) was adjudged the winner of the competition and Devansh of class VII ( Teresa House) stood second.

CELEBRITY INTERACTION
Prof P.B Sharma, Vice Chancellor of Delhi Technological University visited GD Goenka Public School, Sector-9 Rohini on 17th July 2012 for an interactive session with the students. The session began with a short introductory speech by Ms. Lindsy Dayalkumar, Principal. The guest addressed the gathering and answered various queries of students. The students were delighted to acquaint themselves with the information and experience shared by Prof P.B Sharma. He urged the youth not to be complacent, but be rational thinkers, be diligent, make their country and parents proud.
INTER-HOUSE ROLE PLAY COMPETITION

On May 8, 2012, Inter-House Role Play Competition was held for class VI. Maximum participation was encouraged. The students did enactment on the topics like, corruption, secularism, British Role in India and Partition of India. The role play was judged by our respected Principal and the Academic Coordinator, Ms. Kavita Bakshi.
“Teresa House” was adjudged as the winner.
INTER-SCHOOL FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT
footboll The world’s most popular game, Football has a legion of adoring fans and players in G.D.Goenka Public School, Sector 9, Rohini. Our students took part in an Inter-School Football tournament on 4th May 2012. The final match took place between Bal Bhavan Public School, Sarita Vihar and G.D.Goenka Public School, Sector 9, Rohini. Our students brought laurels to the school by bagging in a trophy. Sachin, Rohan Bhatti, Piyush, Sandeep, Gautam of class V and Shishank, Garvit, Rahul, Vishwas, Priyansh of class IV, whole heartedly participated in the competition and each one of them was given a medal and a certificate. Gautam, a participant from Class V shared “I enjoyed playing and would love to participate in more competitions and make my school proud.”
GOENKAN WHEELS THROUGH THE CORRIDORS OF TIME IN DELHI
Delhi is the nerve centre for all the vibrant cultures of the world and its monuments are an everlasting legacy etched in stone. Some of such monuments are- Qutub Minar, Red Fort, Humanyun’s Tomb, India Gate and Lodhi Gardens among others. Our students from class III to VIII visited these monuments from 1st May 2012 to 4th May 2012. The experience was enticing, enriching and educating. Students of class VIII shared that there is something mystic about the intricate carving on the walls of these monuments. Students were awestruck at the sight of these monuments. A student of class VII shared “It feels good to be an Indian”.
TABLE MANNERS
A workshop on “Table Manners” was organized for class VI on the May 2, 2012 wherein students were introduced to the various etiquettes that should be observed while dining on formal occasions. The students were enriched with this knowledge by Mr.Kalra, the cafeteria incharge.
The students were also told about the use of cutlery, placement of plates and glasses and the body posture to be maintained on the dining table. It was a joyful learning experience for the children of class VI.

The Investiture Ceremony was held on April 27, 2012. The School Council was formed and the following students took the OATH to take on the responsibility of their respective titles.
INTER-HOUSE BADMINTON TOURNAMENT
A Badminton match consists of constant highly concentrated action; running, jumping, twisting, stretching, running backwards, throwing and striking. It is believed that in a typical match the athletes cover every inch of the court. With this in mind a Badminton Tournament was conducted at G.D.Goenka Public School, Sector 9 on 27th April 2012. The students enthusiastically participated and showed a spirit of healthy competition.
TEACHER’S WORKSHOP ON MOTIVATIONAL SKILLS
Our Principal Ms.Lindsy Dayalkumar conducted a workshop on motivational skills in the school on 24th April 2012. The main objective of the workshop was to enhance their intrinsic and extrinsic motivational skills. She stressed upon the ways to be self motivated and suggested steps to achieve this goal. The workshop was indeed an enriching experience for the teachers who felt inspired to take on the challenges at the workplace.
Thus “ You don’t need fancy highbrow traditions or money to really learn. You just need people with the desire to better themselves.”

Visit to Nehru Planetarium

On April 24, 2012 our class VI students went to Nehru Planetarium. The Nehru Planetarium in New Delhi is situated in the green surrounding of the Teen Murti House. It was an informative trip for our students. It gave them an opportunity to enhance their understanding of science and spread scientific literacy. The students enthusiastically shared their experience in the school assembly.

Inter Class Poster Making Competition

To make the students aware of the effects and ways to “Go Green” a poster making competition was organized for classes VII and VIII on 24th April 2012. All the students participated with great excitement and Interest. The objective behind conducting a poster making competition was to give their imagination and drawing skills a platform to develop futher.
Vanshika secured first position, Ankur Gupt Second, Muskan Jain Third, Mehak Jain Fourth, Tanya Cahlot Fifth.

Science Quiz

Quiz is an attempt to help the students to enchancing their analytical thinking, and interpretation skills.
The Inter- house science quiz was organized for academic year 2012-13 In the school premises.
Qui comprised of two round
1. Preliminary round held on April 9, 2012
2. Final round held on April 23. 2012
100% participation was ensured in the preliminary round. Students who performed well in the preliminary round were further shortlisted for the final round. It was ensured that there are two students from VII and VIII each for every house. The first position was bagged by Radhakrishan and Vivekananda with 35 points out of 60. Second position was retained by Teresa house with 22 points, Tagore got the third position with 19 points

Baisakhi Celebration

Harvest festival Baisakhi was celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervor in a special assembly. The colorful bhangada and melodious Punjabi song brought the essence of Punjab in the school premises. The principal addressed the students wishing them a prosperous Baisakhi on 13th April 2012. The assembly concluded with the National Anthem.

CCE WORKSHOP FOR PARENTS
CCE Workshop was organized on 7th April 2012 for the parent fraternity with an aim to make them aware about the recent and innovative changes in CBSE curriculum. CCE stands for ‘Comprehensive and Continuous Evaluation’ and it believes in strengthening the inborn talents and skills of students. Under the steering guidance of the School Principal – Ms.Lindsy Dayalkumar, the presentation was made before the parents to highlight the key points of CCE. It was highly appreciated by parents who shared that now there was no ambiguity in the CCE pattern. A vote of thanks was administered by our Principal at the end of the program to the parents who had taken out time from their busy schedule.

CAREER COUNSELLING WORKSHOP
A Career counseling workshop was organized for students of class XI and XII on 5th April 2012. The objective of the workshop was to create career awareness amongst the students. The workshop endeavored to give the students an ability to understand the importance of their own academic potential, attribute, personality, resource, strength and weakness while choosing a course of study at the appropriate time for a suitable and well-desired career. The workshop was conducted by a career counseling organization ‘Reach Out’. The resource people gave them an insight about the courses being offered abroad as well.

G.D. Goenka Public School, Sector – 9, Rohini held its Orientation Day on March 29, 2012 in the School premises.
The event was graced by Mr. Nipun Goenka, Managing Director - G.D. Goenka Group. Also present were Mr. Rakesh Bajaj, Director Finance – G.D. Goenka Group, Ms. Bharti Sharma, Director Franchisee Schools, G.D. Goenka Group and Ms. Anita Singh Manager, G D Goenka Public School.
The function started with the lighting of the auspicious lamp to seek the Divine Blessing.
The School Principal, Ms. Lindsy DayalKumar, a true educationist addressed the parents and formally welcomed them as part of the G.D. Goenka Public School. She stressed upon the role of parents in the development and growth of the child. The teachers and staff were introduced to the gathering.
Ms. Bharti Sharma gave a rendering talk about the vision and mission of the Goenkan family. A presentation was given by Ms. Kavita Bakshi Academic Cordinator, about the school, detailing the curriculum, the activities and the pattern of study in school.
The parents were then invited for a refreshing High Tea. The event ended on a promising note for a bright start to the New Session.
